I'm taking my Savy to the RC Barn in Jeff City, MO for some indoor Nitro racing action this Saturday. I've bought alot of race oriented gear for the truck, hopefully it gets here in time for me to install it. I need all the help I can get...
I have no idea what to expect. I imagine I'll be in th MT class correct? What other trucks should I expect to be competing with? Revos, T-maxs, LST's etc...? I know I don't stand a chance at beating some of the racer trucks like the Revo unless the driver is a retard.
Any pieces of advice for this track noob? I'm looking to have fun and not spend all day messing with the unexpected. Is there usually a tech in where they inspect your truck for legalities or safety concerns? Can I run more than 1 class? What class will I be most competitive in?

My advice is
run what you brung and have fun!!
your gonna be learning..So you need not worry about the others. Just try to be smooth and consitant every lap and your times will get better and better. I imagine you will be competing with everything from a Truggy and Revo down to a T-Maxx.
Just smile and have fun!! Dont over drive it and you will have a blast!!
Never seen a tech inspection like in drag racing
You can run as many classess as you want i am sure.
unless you mean different classes within MT..then I assume being a new track they will have one class.
Maybe someone will chime in that has been there.

Uh Oh...I over drive everything :headbang:
If you think tech at the dragstrip is bad go hit some roadraces
I'm happy to be into something a little more laid back.

if you want to do some prep work, dropping the ride height will help keep the traction rolling to a minimal (do this with plastic spacers inside the shock for a cheap fix). next would be to run crimefighters or dirtbones for traction, although im not sure what workds best on the indoor... there's not alot of choice on MT tires though.
The best thing to do is exactly like Matt said, be smooth and consitant. Go as fast as you can go with the current setup and then start making the mods. Ok let me explain that last statement... I didnt say go as fast as the TRUCK will go... Go as fast as " YOU " can go. If you find yourself crashing at every turn, slow down. Even if it means going quite a bit slower than everone else, if you tried to run as fast as everyone else, you'll be frustrated and still crash.
You will be AMAZED at how smooth and consistant driving will get the job done along with having a blast doing it. If you go balls to the walls, all out, full throttle all the time... it will be a long day for ya.
I'm a prime example of that lol, I recently started running onroad and wanted to compete with the guys that have had practise at this a time or two. No friggen way!!!! I bet I bought every control arm in the Kansas City area! thats no lie. I finaly just slowed myself down, to a point where I was actually in the way of other drivers (of course I'd move out of the way when being passed). I did this until I learned the timing and control of onroad carpet, after that... I'd pick up the pace until I started crashing again in which I would slow it down a bit. Last weekend I had a blast! My lap times were pretty good and consistant, even though I wasn't competitive yet... I'm getting there week by week.
The Savage is a tough one to move around the track if you are competing with Revo's and Truggy's but that doesnt mean you won't have fun! We all had a blast running the savages in '04! Great truck to learn with as its nearly bullet proof!
I believe I have a few savage parts I'll bring with me incase you need something

Thanks for the spare parts option, I may have to hit you up for some, I'll be sure to bring plenty of cash.
I have ordered the new HPI Low CG TVP's for the Savage, it drops everything in the truck 12mm (Motor, tranny radio box and fuel tank). That should help my rolling issue. I just hope it gets here in time, I asked my dealer to two day everything I ordered so it should. I may space out the shocks if need be too, or I'l just zip tie it down temporarily.
I run the Proline 40 series Bowties on my truck for racing and Proline 40 series Moabs for bashing. Hopefully one of those will hook my truck up out there.
Thanks for the tips, I'll try and keep a handle on my urge to keep the trigger pulled tight.
I really hope the MT field isn't consumed by Revo's :63: My Savy is already a proper truck, especially after I get it outfitted with everything I just recently ordered for it, but it certainly won't pose a threat to a Revo.

ccs- I will rig a stop on your throttle if I see you going 'balls to the wall' everywhere :) Seriously though, take Piston and Matt's advice, they have not been doing it very long and they are doing very well. I am sure they will surpass my 'rusty' driving skills someday :D

I will be going to Matts work tomorrow to get Juice. Yes I said juice. I'm going back to the dark side. I haven't ran stadium truck for two years so this will be my first race in quite some time. I'm very excited. Thanks again Matt for letting me run Juice!!!!!!!
