Since I do aerial video and FPV (first person view) flying my rc car hobby has naturally followed down that path as well. I've always thought it would be neat to video an actual race from beginning to end.
I have a very small camcorder that does a pretty decent job and plan on trying it at the track sometime. Here's that same camera on a plane I have. Be sure to turn down you sound as I didn't take time to set this one to music and all you hear is a roar.

Here's one from a plane. I do this with video goggles and a downlink.

That's pretty awesome. It's crazy how fast everything is moving from an onboard view.
Here is a pretty cool link to one on the AE Forums from RCRacePics.com
It is onboard a Associated B4 on an indoor offroad carpet track.

I was on the Traxxas sight the other day and they just introduced a camera designed specifically to mount on an RC car. I was like "sweet gotta have one of those!" I figured that I would finally be able to afford one but I was wrong. :( Not cheap! Not cheap at all!

For the cars it's best to use a cheaper camera. The camera I have costs around a hundred bucks. It's called a flycamone2
It won't transmit video but on a car that's pretty much useless anyway. That works much better on aircraft.
That setup on tower is a complete digital camera in a sealed box. There are used digital cameras all the time on ebay pretty cheap. Bash it up and get another one.

You can get the little cube cameras off ebay for like thirty bucks. They don't work very well though because the signal is always drifting.

Or for a little more you can get better performance.

The second one works better because it's 4 channel instead of having to tune a knob all the time. It locks in the signal.
If I want to record wireless video I have a digital recorder that just plugs into the receiver. I have one set up on the side of my house but I used to use it on a car and it worked great.

I have a small battery powered remote security camera.
It is a little big for an rc car, but I did attach it to one of my old XXT-MF's a long time ago with the camera sticking out of the roof.
I could drive the truck around the parking lot in front of my apartment while i was sitting inside watching the tv.
Worked pretty well, but the feedback from the electronics was annoying.
I always wanted to bring it up to the Blue-Vue track with a small t.v. and drive front my pit table just to see what would happen but never got comfortable enough with it and keeping the camera secure on the car so that the lens didn't get moved in a tumble was always a pain.
With the huge improvement in picture quality and decreased size of the wireless mini cams it would be easy to mount a cam for racing. One of those pen camera's would easily mount to the underside of the roof of a truck body and you could secure the transmitter to the battery strap. Would be a cool view point with the hood shown and all.

I thought of taking an old digital camera and putting it on my slash for giggles...thought it would be cool to watch.
For $25 on Ebay I just might have to...

The thing to look for in a camera is the FPS rate and the sensor. You need 30 frames per second and a CCD sensor.
You can get a ccd camera used really cheap on ebay.
