i've heard some people talking about running this class. are they going to run it at fastlane or are they talking about running it somewhere else?

There are a few guys who are talking about building cars for the VTA class and running at Fastlane (including me). I've drafted local rules based on the national associations but allowing more body choices. The class is seen be many as perfect for those new to on road or younger folks and the old Trans Am bodies don't seem too relevant for a lot of the younger guys.

Can't tell when folks will finally be ready to try the class (I need to paint up and mount a body but can't seem to find enough time away from the track to do that).

I would attach the on-road rules (including Trans AM) to this message but the file size restrictions won't allow it. So instead here is a link to another spot where they are posted:

i've got a jrx-s cuda on the way. it's coming as a roller but was set-up for vta. i also have the one i bought saturday, and i'm going to buy scott's tomorrow. it looks like one more and team slash will be team losi vta. i'll have to get some body's and tires though.
are you allowing the newer muscle car body's like the mustang and camaro?

you guys better hurry up and get some. i'm planning on buying a couple sets of tires and wheels and the camaro body this saturday.
does anyone know what gear i should be running on my jrx-s cars. they have the 4/cell stock motor set-up. i have a 112/47 on there now but i think i'm way off. my 21.5/lipo jrx-s typeR is geared at 96/53 and flies but i think i'm over geared. HELP ON GEARING!!!

set your final drive ratio on the 21.5 to 5.0 and go from there. I'd need the tire diamater to calculate your rollout for you on the spreadsheet.

to have a final drive ratio on the 21.5 you would need a 35 tooth pinion & 96 spur.

96/35*1.83=5.019

The jrxs with the stock motors should be a 24 or 25 for monster stocks and 26 or 27 for blue can co27's tooth depending on the tire diameter. I based it on 70mm

Jason's got the basic math right on the 21.5 but has the wrong target. The US Vintage Trans AM rules specify the 21.5 / lipo Final Drive Ratio as not to exceed 4.2 with a recommended range of 4.2 to 4.6. Omaha has a 5.0 FDR limit. I figured we'd start with the US VTA rules and adjust as needed. I realize Omaha has done this to try to equalize the motor combinations but it seems so far the national group hasn't seen the same need.

For a 96 tooth spur the max pinion for a 4.2 final drive is 41 teeth (actually 41.8 but 42 would be over 4.2). For any spur size, divide by 2.2951 to get pinion size or multiply pinion by that number to get spur size (for a car like the Type R with a 1.83 internal ratio). If you shoot for 4.6 FDR the pinion would be 38 tooth. And Jason is right, at Omaha's 5.0 the max pinion would be 35 tooth.

By the way, following the VTA sites susggestions, you'd run something like a 54 tooth pinion with a 96 tooth spur with a 27t and 4 cell. That's pretty close to what we ran in oval TC with those motors and 4 cells as well. Remember, the motors are spinning a lot slower with 4 cells than with the 6 cells TC's normally ran with.

Isn't or track smaller than Omaha's?

Chuck is right about gearing but I was just suggesting a starting point.

it's all japanese to me chuck. I'll get with you saturday and figure out what to run on my 21.5 and the other 3 27t motors.

I must admit Charlie....the ol' orange muscle body drifting around the track looked pretty cool tonight. Now I have to decide whether to run 1/10 sprint oval, or trans am road racing????? After all, I haven't quite maxed out my credit card with Chuck yet, so I might as well keep spending right???!!!! :D

you'll have fun if you do. they don't slide as much once the track has some traction laid down. these cars look realistic, and very cool.

i think everyone had fun today. we had 6 racers for the first vta outing. i only had 2 cars in it(myself & robby) today with 2 more to come(brother & devin). i also think that jason and jim plan on running them. if you have an old 4wd chassi lying around dust it off and bring it out. there's only a few things u need to race. either a 21.5/lipo or 17.5(27t) stock motor w/4cell battery. if you have these you can pick up tires/wheels, a body and be ready to go.

thanks, and yes it handled very well. i ended up carrying the setup over to my 4cell car jrx-s. on the typeR 21.5/lipo i ended up with a 108/47 and on the stock/4cell jrx-s i ended up running a 112/42. my cousin was running the other jrsx without the psr gear adapter and had to run a 118/45. i'm still off a little with gearing but the stock/4 cell is very close.

After seeing your cars Saturday night, I can't wait to get mine together! May not be out there week after week, but would be fun when I get the chance.

Let me know if you guys mainly go Tuesday nights or Sundays. I'll have to plan for it. Offroad is my preference right now, but if I can make both, I will.
