Hello Rcers, I have had a little problem in the past using different types of oils for air filters, finaly I found a great product that does a great job keeping the dirt and dust out, I tested many types of filter oils and the best I found so far is PJ1 Foam Filter oil treatment spray, I purchased from a motorcycle shop, it soaks up in the foam real easy and quick. After drying it is super tacky . After testing was the best so far I have found for kepping dust out.
Any ideas from other drivers would be great on this topic.
Hope this may help someone.
David
P.S. dont get on your fingers wont come of LOL

The oils for foam filters on dirt bikes are perfect for our cars. Bel Ray has a good oil. I picked up something called "Maxima FFT". It's a nice blue color and very tacky.
Don't forget to put your filter in a baggy and squeeze it to get the oil to penetrate the foam good. Then blot it with a paper towel.

I saw Chad using that stuff. I wonder if it still lets enough air pass? I tried adding horse gauze one day and had to take it off because it was making the motor too lean and not running right.

Judge. I wonder that also, not for sure, I ran a little while was ok but not for sure, I did take one put my mouth on and sucked air, what I would do to test things.I may be wrong but if it did not let air pass it should richen the engine.

Your right, it would richen instead. I know it was not running right.
I use either the stuff they sell in a can from the LHS or I use K&N air filter oil. It works pretty good too. I really like the K&N cleaner. It will clean even the dirtiest air filters to like new.

Good idea Judge, I used that cleaner a long time ago and was very good on my dirt bikes. Now I use unleaded gas and then wash with hot water and dawn dish soap, it cuts what is left from grease. ALSO I washed 62 filters yesterday and after, I put them in the CLOTHES dryer on (delicate) cycle and as they dry it pulls any dust or lent out of the filters. An IDEA to try sometime, foam on its own takes along time to dry. Fellows the test is over, would like to say thanks to Fireball for his sugestions and help also, The Maxima FFT is far the very best I have used fellows, I do not think anyone would be disapointed. I ran several tanks today testing the new track so I tested the FFT. A lot od dust and not a speck got through. Dave
P.S. Also Fireball can get this product for anyone that needs it.

Why do you oil the pre filter? In my opinion that would just attract more dirt.

Dustin, as you can see in the pics there is a very slight dirt ring around the 2nd filter, if the first filter was not oiled that dirt ring would have been on the inside of second filter. When I first started with nitro engines , my first one I wore out at 2 gallons because of dust entering the carb, I was only oiling the inner filter. So I changed my way of thinking, so to stop the dirt before it gets through. If the outer filter in the pic was not oiled , the dirt would made it through just a little. I do not want even a little getting in. This is exactly why I like this forum, when I started simple information was hard to find. Thanks for joining in. Also my ideas are not always the same as others and there is a lot of correct solutions sometimes , but I try to write information from the exsperiances I have, hope this helps Dave

Also I dont think as it as attracting the dirt, because the dirt is in the air already and inside the body of the car and going to land somewere. Dave

I oil both filters with the same oil and it works for me.

i oil both and never change the inner unless i think it is restrictive. i feel that
"over service" on the inner allows more chance for dirt to inter the system. i change the outer often in dusty conditions.
unless someting unusual happens i wont remove the inner filter at the track.
i try to bear in mind that if the filter becomes to restrictive (because of excessive oil or dirt) the air will try to find an easier path into the engine and take dirt in with it. so keeping the fittings serviced is just as vital.
just my opinion
